Howdy folks,
As some of you know, we(Harsh Winters VW Club) have been planning a Get Together in a central location of a few VW Clubs. It has been decided upon, in a town called Winamac, Indiana at the Tippecanoe River State Park, in the Potawatomi Group Camp Area.
The entire area has been rented out by the Harsh Winters VW Club for the dates of June 4-6Th. The group is broken up into 5 areas, four of which are sleeping cabins. Each area has seven primitive cabins that can sleep up to six, a Unit Lodge with electricity and a stone fireplace and beds that can sleep twelve, and a unisex latrine with water. With the 28 individual cabins, there could be 28 individual families, or a mixture of families in some, and some cabins can be used for those that don't care who they house with!  "Singles" could also use the lodges as they also sleep twelve.
Each of the four cabin areas have a large fire pit with ample seating.
The centrally located HUB has a very large mess hall that has a fully equipped kitchen, with seating for 160 people and a fireplace. There is also a pit toilet and a nice shower area.
There are a few drawbacks however. No outside camping or campers allowed. Although if you were to bring a bus and slept in it. I doubt any body would be checking on that. There is a family campground for those who would want to tent camp, but it is about a mile away.
There is a one time weekend pass fee of $7 per car for those out of state and $5 for those with IN plates.
The plan is to get there Friday, get settled in and get ready for some grub. Bring a dish to pass and  break out some grills and cooks some burgers and dogs. We're hoping to have an inflatable TV screen that we can set up in the main kitchen and let kids watch movies. Then lets have a nice big Bonn fire and a few drinks! Alcohol is allowed. Some of the guys from Circle City VW Club will be hooking us up with some fire wood. DONT bring any firewood over a state line!!! There are fines for that. Saturday morning breakfast is on your own. Plans could be made there for breakfast too if someone wants to fire up grills again, anything is possible. Mid morning we will take a leisurely drive through the big(exaggeration) town of Winamac to get us VW people noticed. We will then  stop at an icecream place along the way. Then we will stop at Winamac City Park where we have reserved a Pavilion that hold 100 people. It is located at the front of the park where everybody drives in. We can showcase the cars there and have lunch, (bring your own). After we are done with the park, we will return to the Camp Site and again set up for a cookout the same as Friday night. There is a large shopping area not too far from the campgrounds for buying food and goods. After dinner, we will get ready and cruise to the drive in movie theater. They will be giving us group rates for the movies. If there is an "R" movie it will be the 2ND show. We will post what is showing when it is available to us sometime in April. After the show we will cruise back and get the fire pit started again. Sunday, breakfast on your own again. Make sure place is policed up and cruise out when you're ready.
Check in time is 3pm Friday and check out is by noon on Sunday.
The cost of the cabins are $30 for the weekend, yep that's right, only $30 for both nights. If you would like to have two or three couples in one cabin and split the $30 cost, that's fine too! I would like to see all 28 cabins taken as this is what we are relying on to pay for the cost of the camp site. Lodge sleeping will only be $5 per person for both nights. Remember the lodges sleep 12 and others will be in there too!
Please email bigjoe@harshwintersvw.com for any questions. Doug Willis and Tim Shannon can also be contacted to answer any questions too.
If you would like to reserve a cabin, you can Paypal $30 to bigjoe@harshwintersvw.com and leave a comment "for a cabin". If you want a sleeping bunk in a lodge paypal $5 per person.
Thanks for checking this out. Hope to hear from you!

Tim,
Sounds like the Tippecanoe River State Park, in the Potawatomi Group Camp Area is a pretty cool area for this event. It looks like your plan have come together with a great place for all the clubs to "meet up, camp, cruise, ice cream, and take in a a drive-in movie" .....sounds like you have tried to cover all the bases;D

Hey everybody,
As most of you are aware, this is the same weekend as the Funfest. We have put this outing together as an alternative to it. I know that a lot of you will still end up going to the Funfest.
I too have enjoyed going to the Funfest myself in the past. I think the best time of the whole weekend is spending time with other VW enthusiasts such as yourself. Sitting around a campfire, tipping back a few and listening to the stories. I hope you can join us for a great weekend of fun and I promise, I won't charge you to eat dinner with me either! Grin
Feel free to join us in our forums at www.harshwintersvw.com

Hey ALL,

We are getting closer to Spring!  Today I got my 72 out for a cruise in the country an a fresh tank of premium!  Life is good!!!

Wanted to give everyone an update on the Midwest Classic 2010!  We have over half the cabins reserved, and several bunks in the lodges spoken for!  We have a lot of things planned for the weekend that will be tons of fun for everyone!

Make your reservations before it's too late.......

Remember, we are only offering this as an alternative to what some clubs have planned for this particular weekend, we don't want anyone to feel that we are trying to take anyone away from whatever you ALL do as a group!

If you don't already have plans.... We'd love to have you join us for the weekend!

Regards,

Doug Willis

Hey  all,

I just wanted to give a quick "nudge".

18 of the 24 cabins are now booked. (only 6 left!) only $30 for two nights.  If you have a group of friends that want to go, there's still time to rent one of the lodge houses that sleep 12!  Only $5 per bunk, for two nights, (and they have electricity).  Where else can you go and have a roof over your head for that kind of money?  There are a lot of fun things happening too.  BYOE picnic, drive-in theater "double-feature", bon-fires, BYOE cook-outs, etc.

It's going to be a really fun weekend!

Hi Everyone!

Just a reminder that the Midwest Classic 2010 is just around the corner!  This is the event that HarshWinters is hosting in Winamac, IN.

There are still cabins to be had for just $30 for TWO nights!  That's just $15 a night!  There are also some single bunks available in the Lodge Cabins!

We know that this is a busy time for most of you, but we wanted to extend the invitation to everyone still without plans to come out for what is looking to be a very fun weekend!

We are not asking anyone to alter any plans, or not to have a fun weekend with your respective clubs... Rather, we are offering this setting as an alternative for those wanting a less regimented family weekend!

Here is the link to the HarshWinters forum thread with all the info you'll need.  http://harshwintersvw.com/smforums/index.php?topic=250.0  We truly hope you can join us!

Warm Regards, Doug Willis

Just a reminder that there are still a few cabins left if you want to make some last minute plans to join us!  Just click on the Harsh Winters link in the post below for reservation info and complete details.  It's not too late to make plans!  Don't sit at home next weekend, get out and have some fun!

Doug,

We have a few folks that are talking about coming up for the day. So, they will not be needing cabins, but I think they may want to join up with some of your activities.

Thanks for keeping us all up to date!

SUPER!

The address for GPS is 4200 N US35, Winamac, IN.

We will be leaving the park late morning to cruise to the local DQ for a snack, then to the local city park where we have a pavilion rented for a byof picnic and impromptu car show!

My cell number is 765-404-7621.  I can be reached there all weekend and will help guide anyone to where we are that the time!  We're gonna have a great time!
